Now, here’s the most important tech news from India in the last 7-ish days.
Ola, Uber and Rapido Will Compensate Users for Cancelled Rides
Maharashtra’s new Aggregator Cabs Policy 2025 aims to enhance cab services for residents, addressing issues like trip cancellations and safety concerns. Key measures include ensuring drivers receive 80% of fares, imposing penalties for cancellations, and refunding fares to customers.

Why it matters: it may not last, but this is indeed a landmark resolution. Anyone who’s used Ola or Uber or Rapido in Mumbai would have likely faced cancelled rides. Now only if there’s a law for drivers who keep riders waiting for longer than specified…

Infosys Terminates More Trainees
So far in 2025, the Bengaluru-based IT giant has let go of nearly 800 freshers. This includes about 240 dismissals on April 18, over 300 in February, and another 30–35 in March.

Why it matters: this really pisses me off. Infosys earlier made a big deal about hiring tons of freshers, but what’s the point if you just fire them. Sure they say it’s because they didn’t clear an internal assessment. But, does that assessment remain the same every year? How do we know that Infosys just didn’t make the assessment harder so they have an excuse to fire freshers. For them it’s just numbers, but for the freshers it’s a big setback at the start of their careers.
Seriously, how did Infosys even get here?

I’d say that the Government should get involved, but they did. And found that Infosys was not in violation of labour laws. Imagine that!
Zoho Pulls Out of Chipmaking Plan
Indian software firm Zoho has suspended its year-long pursuit of a $700 million plan to expand into chip manufacturing, its co-founder said on Thursday, confirming a Reuters story and dealing another blow to the Indian government’s semiconductor plans.
Zoho struggled to find the right technology partner required to advise on complex chipmaking processes, one source familiar with the matter told Reuters earlier.

Why it matters: sadness. But hey, India Semiconductor Mission is still on track! Mostly.

Blinkit Pauses 10-minute Airtel Sim Delivery Service
Not long after after Blinkit-Airtel SIM home delivery was announced (see TWITI #16 of 2025) with much fanfare, the service has been put on hold, sources said. The move came after DoT queried Airtel on the process being followed and made it clear that stipulated norms have to be complied with, the sources said.

Why it matters: this matters more than the earlier news about Blinkit about starting this service. I’d say, well done to the DoT for querying Airtel and well done to Blinkit for pausing this service on their own. KYC norms are required for security, and for the greater good of the community.

Dixon and Inventec Form JV to Manufacture PCs and Servers in India
Electronics manufacturing services company Dixon Technologies has entered into a joint venture agreement with Taiwanese IT hardware giant Inventec Corporation for manufacturing personal computers, components and servers in India. The joint venture, Dixon IT Devices Private Limited, will focus on manufacturing notebook PC products, desktop PC products, including components, and servers within India, according to a regulatory filing.

Why it matters: we doing good, but we need to do good-er on the manufacturing front if Tech India is to reach global tech dominance. Read this from restofworld if interested – I found it very insightful.

Swiggy has paused its Genie service in multiple cities. This pickup-and-drop service is currently unavailable in major locations. Swiggy cites operational constraints as the reason. The company is working to restore the service soon. This suspension follows the expansion of Swiggy’s Bolt service. Bolt promises 10-minute delivery. Swiggy’s financial results for the March quarter are due on May 9.
