Here’s the most important news from Tech India from this week for you to stay informed.
TCS Gets 21 Acres of Land in Andhra Pradesh for ₹0.99
The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved the allocation of 21.16 acres to TCS in Visakhapatnam at a token lease price of 99 paise. The tech giant will use the earmarked land on IT Hill Number 3 for an IT campus where it is expected to invest Rs 1,370 crore. The project is set to generate 12,000 jobs.

Why it matters: TCS, currently India’s largest IT company which announced $30bn in revenue for FY25 surely can pay more than 99 paise for 21 acres of land. But this move did attract the additional 12,000 jobs and ₹1,300+ crore investment to Vizag, and it’s good to see IT campuses setup in other tier 2 cities outside of Bangalore and Hyderabad and TN and the usual suspects.

Btw, TCS still defers wage hikes for its employees. Speaking of wage hikes:
Like TCS, Wipro Announces Uncertainty Over Wage Hikes
“We are still quite far from the next cycle. In this uncertain environment, we will decide on wage hikes closer to the date,” said Saurabh Govil, Wipro’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), during the post-earnings press conference.

Why it matters: this is really not ok and the Government should pay more attention to remarks and decisions like this. Wage hikes are not a nice to have, they are a given for high performing employees who work extra hard for the company. This is one of the biggest motivation killers. If you have a friend who works at Wipro, check in on them.

Infosys, on the other hand, announced reasonable increments.
TCS Faces Allegations of Discrimination in the US, Probe Ordered
TCS is under investigation by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) following complaints from US workers who allege the company unfairly targeted them for layoffs based on age, race, and national origin, while protecting younger Indian workers. TCS denies the allegations, asserting they have always maintained fair hiring practices in the US.

Why it matters: I’ll admit, in today’s Tariff / Trump / Elon driven news cycles, it’s hard to take seriously these allegations from the Trump/Elon (Trumplon?) administration who more openly practice discrimination. Anyway, either nothing will come out of this or this is part of a wider plot to tax or penalize Indian (or foreign) companies in the US.

Blinkit Will Now Deliver Airtel Sim Cards in 10 Minutes
irtel has partnered with Blinkit to deliver SIM cards in 10 minutes in 16 cities, ; the SIMs can be activated through Aadhaar-based KYC, with a convenience fee of ₹49.

Why it matters: I have the same question I had when Blinkit announced it will deliver a MacBook in 10 minutes (see TWITI #9 of 2025) and Lloyds AC in 10 minutes. And that question is… why? Then again let’s remember that Blinkit introduced the 10 minute ambulance service (see TWITI #1 of 2025).

CM Stalin Inaugurates Sify’s ‘AI Ready’ Data Centre Campus in Siruseri (Chennai)
This is South India’s largest AI-ready data centre campus, which has an eventual capacity of 130 MW. It is also the only data centre in India with an on-site open cable landing station, the company said.

Why it matters: This is what I was talking about in the first news bit above – concentration of IT campuses in a few cities in India, such as Chennai (Siruseri is a part of Chennai). A month ago, Cognizant announced a Siruseri campus. So it’s nice for these IT Campuses to be setup in other cities.
Not entirely sure what ‘AI-ready’ means though. By definition, any piece of computer that’s not decades old is AI-ready. Anyway.
