This Week in Tech India #25 of 2025

Another busy week for Tech India. It looks like it will get busier – with more companies wanting to manufacture in India, and more Indian companies wanting to sell a locally and abroad.

Speaking of selling, Tesla is set to open its first showroom in India. Late to the Indian game I would think, what with Tata, Hyundai, Mahindra, MG, Kia and even BYD available in India. And remember the Battery as a Service (Baas) concept that MG introduced with the Windsor EV?

Plus, our American / South African friend Elon has had a busy few weeks, with his very public beef with Trump, Tesla stock value being wiped out, and recently his SpaceX rocket exploding. How does he balance all that and spending time with his thirteen children from different women? I don’t want to know.

So here’s what else happened this week in Tech India:

  • Tata Electronics’ fab plant in Dholera, Gujarat has began construction, expecting to start producing as early as December 2026. This will be a landmark for tech India; a giant leap that will take India much closer to global tech dominance, even more than Taiwan and China one day. Also in a smart move, Tata Electronics sent staff to Taiwan for semiconductor training (see TWITI #24 of 2025).
  • Cognizant gets land near Vishakapatnam for a token amount of 99 paise. If you remember, TCS did it first earlier this year (see TWITI #16 of 2025) getting 21 acres of land for 99 paise. Cognizant will spend upwards of 1,500 cr on setting up a campus that will generate thousands of jobs over the next few years. My question is, did they write a cheque for 99 paise?
  • 83% of Indian companies hired a ‘Chief AI Officer’ to fast-track AI adoption, according to an AWS report. Although I’d be skeptical about a report from AWS, who is incentivized to make you believe that AI is everywhere and you’ll d!e if you don’t adopt AI. The acronym CAIO sounds cool though.
  • Delhivery Launches ‘Delhivery Direct’ On‑Demand Intracity & Intercity Delivery App in the Delhi-NCR and Bangalore regions. For those who didn’t know, Delhivery is India’s largest ‘integrated third-party logistics and supply chain company’, founded in 2011 and headquartered in (wait for it) Gurgaon. This is all launch looks like a cool move though, I can send something to my best friend in Chennai tomorrow and don’t have to take a flight.
  • Amazon India launches Amazon Diagnostics which will offer over 800 diagnostic tests and doorstep sample collection within 60 minutes. This service is launching in six cities and can be accessed via the Amazon app. I’m less skeptical about this than Amazon Clinic, because here all you’re doing is booking an at-home diagnostic test. Amazon is doing this in collaboration with Orange Medical. Thing is, I hope Amazon doesn’t read my diagnostic reports, because if it does who knows what ads I’ll get in the Amazon app.
I just prompted “Chief AI officer” in Leonardo AI and this is my favorite result

That’s it for now, but let me say a big thank you to those who gave me feedback that made TWITI what it is. Please continue to send me your feedback so that I can make TWITI what it should be, so that more people can stay informed about tech in India!
