This week’s most sensationalized news in Tech India is Prime Day which is July 12th to 14th. However, before you do anything (further) on Prime Day, please watch this video I made for my dear friends:

Other things that happened this week, TechCrunch released an article with the title “India’s Richest Man Wants to Turn Every TV Into A PC“. I don’t know about that, Jio did launch JioPC, which offers a cloud-based PC experience through Jio’s set-top box, which comes bundled for free with the telco’s home broadband service or can be purchased separately for ₹5,499/-. Currently in free trial and available via waitlist, users can access the virtual desktop on their TV by plugging in a keyboard and mouse once they receive an invite and set up their account. Still not sure about what Mukesh Ambani wants but this TV-PC might have some uses.

Btw, Reliance Jio also announced that their planned IPO (yes, Jio is not yet a listed entity) is delayed as they seek a higher valuation.

Now onto this week’s remaining tech news roundup:

  • Infosys HR has been sending personalized warning emails to employees working more than 9 hours and 15 minutes for the day. Wonder how many emails Narayan’s Murthy got?
  • Elon Musk’s satellite internet venture Starlink has received approval from India’s space regulator, and its satellite services in India is set to launch soon… although this isn’t the first time we’ve been hearing this. Internationally, Elon’s xAI launches Grok 4 but that was not before Grok actually praised Hitler and insulted users.
  • Nothing has announced an exclusive “drop event” for its new Phone 3, taking place on July 12 at UB City in Bengaluru. The company stated that attendees will get a chance to purchase the Phone 3 ahead of its official sale. “The first 100 customers to buy the Phone 3 at the event will receive the new Nothing Headphone 1 at no extra cost,” the brand confirmed. The event starts at 7 PM and will follow a first-come, first-served format. I’m a little bummed though that the Phone 3 starts at ₹79,990/- for what I would say are mid-range specs.

In other international news, Bill Gates sort-of said that if you’re a programmer, AI won’t replace you for at least another 100 years. And on the same day, Microsoft as well as companies like Indeed and Glassdoor announced mass layoffs citing AI. These corporate types really shouldn’t be trusted.

Then the EU unveiled an “AI Code of Practice” which I’m yet to see any real value to (and I’ve been a technology consultant for a living). Anyway.

That’s it for now, make sure to come back for next week’s tech news roundup for Tech India!
