It seems that an India-US trade deal is awaiting US President Trump’s approval, and many in Tech India are hoping this approval comes before 09th June 2025 which is the date for introduction of ‘new tariffs’. I was wondering when the last of this whole tariff story would be. I guess 4 years later?
Another thing, the Nothing Phone 3 launched in India at a price starting at ₹79,999/- The price set me off a little bit. This is iPhone level pricing. It is a flagship, another flagship that’s made in India (see TWITI #24 of 2025). Some day I hope we’ll see phones made in India (like the iPhone, Pixels, Galaxy and others) be cheaper in India.
In other news, deep tech (which refers to advanced technologies based on significant scientific or engineering innovation, often developed through intensive research and development (R&D)) is getting more money from the Government. This is the first point below.

Let’s get into this week’s tech roundups:
- Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said the government has provided an additional Rs 10,000 crore as part of the Fund of Funds scheme to further support and promote deep tech research and startups. “Having now committed the entire first tranche of Fund of Funds of Rs 10,000 crore in the last Budget, another Rs 10,000 crore has been provided,” Goyal said at an event organised by IIT Madras and the institute’s alumni association in Bengaluru.
- Infosys is taking Cognizant to court in the US over antitrust. Allegations involve poaching of key personnel and some other legal stuff. I mean, come on. Also why can’t they just fight in Indian courts?! Overall, Infosys and Cognizant are currently involved in a legal dispute in a US court, stemming from accusations of trade secret theft and anti-competitive practices.
- Foxconn has recalled over 300 Chinese engineers and technicians from its India facilities over the last two months. Taiwanese engineers are still there though. This doesn’t immediately mean that the iPhone production in India will stop or even slow down, but it’s an interesting development.
- Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), Kodak’s official brand licensee in India, has launched the Kodak QLED 4K smart television powered by JioTele OS. This marks Kodak’s first smart TV under the JioTele OS platform and the second overall from SPPL, which had earlier introduced a Thomson-branded model in February this year. Price ₹18,990/- but 43 inch only. I just wish they made a 55 inch TV.
Also, in some more global news, Microsoft is set to have another round of layoffs – almost 9,000 people this time. If you have read this post of mine, you’ll know that I really don’t like Microsoft as a company.
That’s it for now, stay tuned next week with next week’s roundup! Share this with your friends to make sure they stay informed about tech in India.
