Microsoft’s (AI)ndia PR Announcement
Microsoft announces US $3bn investment over two years in India cloud and AI infrastructure to accelerate adoption of AI, skilling and innovation
Why this matters: I really don’t like this announcement. It’s full of inaccuracies and assumptions (for example, AI innovation is not “pivotal” to achieving Viksit Bharat) and feels like one big PR friendly collection of words. I’m keeping my eye out for what Microsoft is trying to do in India this year, as it feels like this AI-washing announcement is a distraction from something that Microsoft really wants to do in India.

Fenado AI Launched
Inshorts co-founder Azhar Iqubal introduced Fenado AI, a platform enabling users to create apps and websites without coding. It targets startups, small businesses, and large organizations.
Why this matters: Now this is an AI-related announcement I like. It’s tangible, it’s what AI can do (and there’s proof of AI’s ability to help create apps and websites) and it’s an enabler to ultimately help you achieve your business goals.
Note: This is not sponsored by Fenado AI. None of my posts are sponsored, I do this on purpose so I can remain truly independent.

MSI to start making laptops in Chennai
Taiwanese tech giant MSI joined hands with Syrma SGS Technology to produce laptops in Chennai under the “Make in India” initiative. This facility will focus on AI-powered laptops for Indian consumers.
Why it matters: I’m a fan of more “Make in India”. It’s one aspect of China’s rapid development into a tech manufacturing behemoth, and India is well on its way to becoming a manufacturing hub of world-leading tech – from iPhones to EVs and now gaming laptops. Maybe one day such premium tech will be cheaper in India?

TCS wants to make electric flying taxis
Tata Consultancy Services partnered with IIT Madras-incubated startup ePlane Company to develop electric flying taxis. The collaboration will focus on battery life optimization and operational efficiency using advanced analytics and IoT.
Why it matters: seriously what is this? It may not happen – but if it does….. Cool.
HCLTech Wage Hikes
HCLTech announced a 1-4% wage hike for junior employees for Q3 FY25, showcasing growth among tier-I IT services companies.
Why it matters: Finally, some news about a big tech company increasing wages rather than complaining about number of hours worked. I have been saying for a while that big tech companies like Infosys and TCS have not increased their wages to keep up with inflation. Hope to see more announcements like this.
